Crystal Light
I sit here writing this memorial with my heart broken into 1000 little pieces of sadness and loss. Crystal come into our lives on March 31, 2004 and left us on December 29, 2009. She was named Dutchess originally and we renamed her Crystal after the ski resort on Mt. Rainier, Washington. She was about 8 years young, obese with a horrible haircut but had the biggest sweetest brown eyes I had ever seen on an Aireddale. She was my 3rd Airedale, the 2nd from rescue. Over time she lost some weight although retained a voracious appetite for food and cookies, and with a great groomer, she became the perfect Airedale. Before counter surfing became impossible due to hip dysplasia and arthritis, I lost countless pieces of pizza, cookies, muffins, crackers, chicken and her crowning glory of $50 of perfectly gift boxed Boehm's chocolates one evening while I was at a play. That was a fun weekend! She was my buddy, the light & warmth of our home, and the face I wanted to come home to after work. Even my fiance' who has never been a 'dog person' and could not tell the difference between an Airedale and a German Shepherd fell in love with her, and cried his heart out for days after we lost her. Crystal was truly the light of our lives and the emptiness without her is nearly unbearable. We will love her forever and I can only hope with all my heart that right now she is running through a field of green grass with no hip dysplasia, no arthritis, no pain, her hearing and eyesight intact having a wonderful time chasing squirrels and soaking up the warm rays of sunlight. Crystal, we will miss you forever. Laureen Light and Steven Rolfe.
Crispy
We are so sad to lose our beautiful, sweet boy. We named him Crispin, which means "curly haired", but he quickly became "Crispy" to us. Crispy was adopted through N W Airedale Terrier Rescue two months after the loss of our beloved "Magnus", the Airedale that started it all for us. Crispy was a senior when he came to us, and with us, for just three years before he died of congestive heart failure. We think he was 11 but suspect he was a couple of years older, so maybe we should just consider the cause "old age" which is slightly easier to bear. Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, we feel so fortunate to have had him as a part of our family for his last years. Crispy loved hard boiled eggs and hugs. He could really appreciate a good haircut, and would sit patiently with his eyes closed. He received numerous compliments on his distinguished good looks and calm demeanor. We took him on camping trips to the Oregon Coast several times and he loved the beach. He enjoyed hiking with us as a family and taking trips to Idaho to visit family and dog friends. This summer, we camped out in the back yard 25 times. He really liked sleeping in the tent. He was always on squirrel patrol and loved chasing cats from his yard. Every night, he slept at the foot of our son's bed, taking up a third of it. As his mom, I will miss the small things; the clicking of his toenails and the jingling of his tags. Him following me from room to room, trying to work around him while I am cooking, and being woken up by his wet nose pokes, and super happy morning greetings. We spent our days together; he was my walking partner and friend. He was always good company. Crispy was the sweetest and most mellow Airedale; a kindly old gentleman. He became part of our family and our house feels empty without him. He was very loved by us, and we all felt very loved by him as well. He will be greatly missed.
Tiffany Jewel
Tiffany Jewel was my best friend for 15 years. I miss you terribly beautiful lady but we will be together again.
Jack Prescott Logan
May 23, 1998 - November 11, 2009
Jack came to our family by way of Northwest Airedale Terrier Rescue. Jack was 9 1/2 years old and came into rescue as a result of a divorce. Six weeks earlier, we had lost our beloved Airedale Prescott from acute renal failure. Prescott was 13 years and 8 months when he passed. Prescott was my first Airedale and we had a very strong bond. I knew when Prescott died, I wanted to honor his memory by rescuing an Airedale in need. In addition, we had a Welsh Terrier named Bentley age 12 1/2 years that took Prescott's passing very hard. This prompted us to move quickly in getting another Airedale.
As a member of the California Airedale Terrier Club, Inc. I had contacts to assist me in finding an Airedale. I also went to Petfinder.com where I saw Jack. Jack was being fostered in Alaska so NWATR arranged for him to be flown to Portland, OR., so I got on a plane and flew up to meet Jack and take him home.
Jack was a large Airedale with a big head and handle-bar ears. He was so cute and so big. He had very strong eye contact with you. He was very well mannered and very very smart. I did have to work with him on trusting me at first but he bonded to me in one week. Once I got Jack home, he bonded to his new little big brother Bentley. Jack filled the hole in hearts from losing Prescott.
Unfortunately, we only had Jack for two years. He died suddenly from an undiagnosed tumor on his spleen which erupted. He passed away shortly after having an ultrasound and before going into surgery. I still love that big- headed Airedale so much. He was so loving and sweet. He loved his momma and I loved him too.
