Shasta
Shasta came to live with me and my family in the month of March 2009.
Shasta came to me as a leash aggressive girl. She certainlly had a way about her as I quickly learned she wasn't going to back down from any dog. When Shasta asked me take her for walks here in the Columbia River Gorge area where
we live, I was always on alert when other dogs approached. Eventually, she calmed
down and we became best friends forever. She went on every car ride I could
take her on and we went on some long rides looking at my other passion ...
Horses. She went to her first horse show the summer of 2009. She never
went in the field with the horses and never chased after our chickens, but
at first she did chase the cats, but not for long. She was a true companion
and made me laugh and introduced me to so many people in my country
neighborhood. If not for her, I would never have met so many of my neighbors
and their dogs. In January 2011, she went to the dentist for a couple teeth
extractions and her blood work was great. Two months later, I groomed her
at the local doggie wash and noticed a couple of lumps on her back, shoulder
and tail. My daughter works as a small animal veterinary technician so she
took Shasta with her to work and the results were not good. Her cancer
advanced quite quickly, and since she was almost 12 and the biggest lump was in her
shoulder area, surgery would have been difficult. The decision was made to
keep her comfortable on meds until the time came when she would not eat. I
tried to let this special dog go but put off the inevitable for a few days.
I knew her time had come, but sending her to All Dogs Go To Heaven was so
difficult. She made such a big difference in my life, and now I needed to
let her go. I prepared her site here at our farm, and on a Sunday morning
late April she went peaceably. I quietly thanked those who brought this
wonderful Airedale into my life (Megen you changed my life too) and I know
Shasta had a wonderful life here in the country.

Cody
February 6, 2001 - April22, 2011 Cody came to us in April 2007 from NW Airedale Terrier Rescue. He arrived at our house, took a few laps around the yard, and then came inside, sat in front of us and seemed to say, “This will do just fine. I’ll stay here!” We loved watching Cody stomping around and around in his beanbag chair to make it just right before lying down. He had a big wicker basket full of toys, and would root through it until he chose the perfect t toy to bring us to play with. He was our constant companion and was satisfied just being with us, whether it was camping, going for a road trip or a hike, or just hanging out at home and going for his daily walks through the neighborhood. Cody was a great big fuzzy loveable Airedale with a huge personality. He was our 100 lb lap dog and always good for a hug. He was with us for much too short a time, only four years. Cancer took him from us on April 22, 2011. We miss him terribly and will love him always.

March 21, 2001
In loving memory of our Charlie Boy.
Charlie came to us as a "senior rescue" from Northwest Airedale Terrier Rescue on August 9, 2008. Our very special loving boy, Charlie, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge on March 21, 2001. He came to us with issues in his back end and that is what finally took him from us. On his last trip to the vet, he enjoyed chicken nuggets and french fries from a drive through restaurant...his favorite treat. We held him in our arms and whispered our last goodbyes as he crossed the bridge. He was stoic and brave the whole way. Though he came to us late in life, Charlie quickly became a member of our family. He was warmly welcomed by our cat, Bob, our extended family members and our friends...who always looked forward to his enthusiastic greeting at the door. Charlie loved people! He never wanted to be left behind. He especially loved his car rides and even enjoyed a couple of road trips to Canada! We equipped our SUV with a ramp so he could easily get in and out along the way. On the odd occasion when we had to leave Charlie, he was welcomed by Lon and Marie at Lonmar Kennels where he always received the special treatment he needed. Charlie had come to us with many issues, but with the patient help of a loving and caring network, we were able to work through his fear of grooming and touching. Charlie was gradually able to relax and enjoy pats and affection and gradually learned to enjoy his visits for "Airedale" grooming at the Dirty Dog Wash in Birch Bay. He was always rewarded with praise and, of course, chicken strips from his patient, kind groomers...which he loved. Today, we missed Charlie's wet nose nuzzling at our beside telling us it was time to start the day. Today, we missed Charlie's smiling Airedale face at the back door as we arrived home. Today we missed Charlie coming to sit beside us on the back porch to share the sunshine. Today was just not the same without Charlie. Our time with Charlie was just too short. His happy face and loving demeanor will be in our memories forever. I pray that our sweet boy is romping in the fields without pain in his hips and frolicking with his Airedale buddies. Thank you, Charlie. You blessed us with 2 years of love, loyalty and happiness.
